Happiness galore at 2018 ROSEBUD Schools 5th Biennial Athletics …
The 2018 ROSEBUD Schools 5th Biennial Inter House Athletics Competition held Tuesday 27th March 2018 has come and gone but the dazzling memories of varied interests spotted both in the sporting competitions and other area of human enthusiasms would be alive for a long time to come.
For the dignitaries, the competitors, the parents, the officials, the spectators and those who came to show-off one talent or the other; it was happiness galore. This story is about Sports, but it is equally necessary to know the; who, what, where, when and how’s of ROSEBUD Schools.
Who is ROSEBUD School? ROSEBUD School is group of co-educational institution consisting of the crèche, pre-school, junior and senior secondary categories. It handles UTME classes, and it is approved by the British Council for Cambridge A-Levels Examinations. Besides, it enrolls candidates for Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), SAT and CBT (Computer Based Tests).
I can hear you ask me; what is ROSEBUD about? And I will boldly reply that I reliably gathered that ROSEBUD Schools, with the core values of Creativity, Hard work, Care, Pursuit of Excellence and Quality of Character is a group of Educational Institutions that enable first class development for future leaders in their Academic, Vocational and Sports pursuits. In brief, it is a group of Schools that is facilitating all-round education using International best practices. And it was established some 12 years ago.
But how has ROSEBUD fared? I will say, it has fared well with lots of local and international achievements in Academic and Sports. For instance, its March 2018 JAMB for those 21 pupils coached through the School UTME class all of whom came back to reveal their scores showed a range of 213 points for the lowest and 275 points for the high with a median of 250 points. ROSEBUD also has unrivalled facilities among schools of South Western Nigeria for Vocational pursuits and in the productions of daily needs ( music, fashion designing, computer works, typewriting, arts, crafts, pottery, technical drawing, soap making, perfumes making and electric bulbs making)
Let’s go back to the story on the Inter House Athletics Competition. Concerned with the potential of high heat of the noon of Africa summer day, yesterday’s Inter House Athletic Sports Competition witnessed a bright but surprisingly cool atmosphere and therefore considered weather friendly. In fact, the clement weather made participants, parents, guardians, officials and spectators forgot that time was long spent. The field remained crowded. This reporter who lives 30 kilometer away also forgot to leave the event until it was past 5.30 p.m. before he left.
The event was chaired by Engr. Adewale Adeoye a former Member of Oyo State Executive Council and Member, Governing Board of Federal Medical Centre, Gombe. It started at about 11.20 a.m. in the presence of dignitaries from the Public Service, the Academia, Private Business Sector, the Bar, the Media owners, Schools Proprietors and indeed from all walks of life. Competing Houses were Yellow House otherwise called Citrine House, Blue House (the Lapiz Lazuli), Red House (the Rubby) and Green House (the Peridot). It was learnt that Citrine, Lapiz Lazuli, Rubby and Peridot are gem stones associated with the Houses.
With the Proprietor, (often erroneously feminized as Proprietress) Mrs. Funmilola Aderogba and other top dignitaries at stand to receive the march past teams, a spectra of colours, smartness of steps, wriggles in body movements were set on show and the fascinating spectators stared with astonishment. Kings and Queens designates of the marching teams brightened the march pasts.
At the Primary category of the march past, the Rubby Gems or the Red House scored first, Yellow House – the Citrine came second and Blue House, the Lapiz Lazuli came third. In the Secondary category, Yellow House came first, Blue House was second and Red House came third.
As for non-track competitions, the Volley Ball Trophy was won by Yellow House and Green house won the runner’s cup. The School also held competitions for Discuss – male and female, Javelin – male and female, Long Jump – male and female, Thug of war – male and female, shot put – male and female and swimming –male and female. It is worth mentioning that the school has a safe, standard size and functioning swimming pool within its premise.
Concerning track events, the 400 meters Senior category for Boys was won by Macauley Kayode of Yellow House, Badmus Boluwatife of Green House was second while Bienose Jubilee of Red House came third. In the female 400meters category for Snr Girls was won by Mercy Akintola of Blue House followed by Tolani Gbadamosi of Yellow House and Idowu Ifeoluwa of was announced as third winner.
Invited Schools competitions were held. The Schools that participated in the Secondary Schools category included Adesina College, Akobo, Ibadan, Graceland Heights, Wofun, Olodo, Ibadan, Atorise Comprehensive College, Ibadan, among others. There was also Inter-school athletic competition among invited Primary Schools during which I.D.C Primary School Oluwa, Ibadan sprang surprises during the heat and final race.
In addition, Old students, Parents and Staff race competitions were conducted with interesting skills by participants and amusing outcomes.
For the 2018 ROSEBUD 5th Biennial Inter House Athletic Competition, held on Tuesday 27th March 2018 at Akobo / Exide axis of Ibadan, All was well that ended well.
