18-year old ex-convict in court on ….

An 18 year-old ex-convict Mr. A.. Adeyemi was arraigned in court on a 3-count charge of conspiracy, shop breaking and stealing before his Honour, Chief Magistrate O. O. Latunji of Magistrate Court 12, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

The accused, Adeyemi of Eleburu Street, Oluyole Estate, Ibadan, Oyo State of Nigeria who was docked on three counts charges of conspiracy, shop breaking and stealing contrary to and punishable under section 516, 413 (1) (2) and 390 (9) cap 38 volume II Laws of Oyo state of Nigeria faces jail term or payments of fines if convicted.

The accused admitted that he was guilty of the charges except the charge of conspiracy. The prosecutor, S.B. Hammed, told the court that Azeez committed the offence on the 29 of December 2017 about 3:00am at Alaafia Avenue Opposite WAO Soap Company Oluyole Extension Ibadan and was reported to the Oluyole Police Station at the same day by 5:00am by the shop manager – Aro.

The prosecutor further told the court that Aro exhaustively stated that she was called on phone by her security guard – John that her shop situated at Alaafia Avenue opposite a soap Company at Oluyole Extension Ibadan was burgled and some goods yet to be estimated were carted away. And when her security Guard was searching further for the burglar, he caught Mr. Adeyemi with some of the goods that were carted away, she alleged. In addition, she got to the shop, she discovered that goods worth sum of N56, 415:00k (about US$ 155.8) was caught with the accused, she further alleged.

The prosecutor enlightened the court that the accused was taken to the scene of crime by the Police along with the complainant and the photographs of the scenes were taken by a photographer. The prosecutor also informed the court that the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) interrogated the accused and it was found that the accused was an ex-convict. The DCO immediately ordered the prosecutor to charge the suspect of the case to the Chief magistrate court.

His Honour, Chief Magistrate O. O. Latunji found the accused person – Adeyemi guilty of all the 3-count charge. On the charge count of Conspiracy the accused person was ordered to go to jail for 3 months with hard labour or pay the amount of N10, 000 (US $ 27.6) as fine, on the charge of breaking of shop, the accused was sentenced tor 6 months imprisonment with hard labour or pay N20, 000 (US$ 55.24) as fine and for the charge count of  stealing, the accused should be imprisoned for 6 months with hard labour or he should pay N20, 000 (US $ 55.24) as fine.
