Operation Burst, Radio Station, Reconciles

A Special Security Out-fit of Oyo State “Operation Burst” and the Pensioners’ FM Radio Station have at last resolved their differences. The resolution followed the recent visit of the Commander of the State Special Security outfit, Brigadier General Thomas Ogunsugba to Pensioners 106.7 FM, Agbarigo, Onireke area of Ibadan. During the visit, the Brigadier who is also a Garrison Commander in the Nigerian Army, expressed displeasure over the way the news was reported. He described the manner of report of the incident as scary and damaging to the image of Nigerian Army because there was no record of shooting at the scene of the incident that happened along New Ife Road, Ibadan, on the fateful day contrary to media reports.

He said he was therefore at the Pensioners Radio Station 106.7 FM, Agbarigo, Onireke, Ibadan to ascertain the authenticity of the recent report of harassment of a management staff of the station; Dr. Babatunde Tiamiyu by a member of the Operation Burst. Dr. Tiamiyu was returning from official assignment when the incident happened.

Bridgadier Ogunsugba described the incident as unfortunate and further disclosed that the news report on the incident has gone viral and has put pressure on the leadership of the security outfit.

Ogunsugba described the media and security agencies as partners in progress for the development of the country and assured the management of Pensioners Radio Station that efforts were ongoing to identify the soldier who allegedly acted wrongfully.

Responding, General Manager Pensioners Radio Station 106.7 FM, Mr. Lere Shittu called for cordial relationship between the media and security agencies. He strongly advised those saddled with public security to always be civil and respect people’s right even during emergency situations.

The victim of the incident and Head of Program and News, Dr Babatunde Tiamiyu, who was present at the meeting, appreciated Brigadier General Ogunsugba for the sense of responsibility and maturity he displayed on the issue.
